Fluorite
€1250
Rare color combination fluorite with an extraordinary history. It was part of a very limited pocket discovered in 1983 - a pocket that produced a distinctive color combination never seen again. Field-collecting at the Okorusu Mine is no longer permitted and for decades, only a team of mine engineers was allowed to dig - and even then, only one day per month. But the original discoverer of this fluorite had a close relationship with the mine director, a connection that granted him rare, extended access to the mine. He was permitted to sleep and dig within the mining area for weeks. It was during one of his unique expeditions that he uncovered this one-time-only pocket. The specimen color palette is exceptional - most of the crystal shows a vivid blue with shifting tones of blue-green. Dark crystal edges glow with deep purple. One side of the mineral shows a contacted surface, revealing greenish fluorite beneath the blue layer - an intriguing glimpse into the formation process of this interesting crystal. Remarkably, the piece does not require backlight to display its full color spectrum (the first photo is taken without any backlight). A true collector’s piece with provenance, character, and a story that can’t be replicated. By buying this mineral you also buy rights to use our photos.
